EM2EM and FSC: How to install and start

1.) Java®
If EM2EM / FSC should run as a GUI window application Java® is required.
Download and install the software according to the installation hints on the Java® webpages.
2.) Install of EM2EM / FSC
- Linux / Unix / MAC OS X:
Copy the EM2EM/FSC archive file (imagic_free.tar) to the wanted directory and double click
it to uncompress the archive. Within a terminal window the command is: tar -xf imagic_free.tar
- MS Windows:
Use a file archiver like 7-zip
or WinRAR to uncompress the archive imagic_free.tar.
3.) Start EM2EM / FSC
- Linux / Unix / MAC OS X:
Start as GUI windows application: Double click the
em2em.sh or fsc.sh icon, respectively.
Start as a line-by-line program: Open a terminal/command window and type
em2em.sh -t or fsc.sh -t , respectively.
- MS Windows:
Start as GUI windows application: Double click the
em2em.bat or fsc.bat icon, respectively.
Start as a line-by-line program: Open a MS-DOS console application/command window and type
em2em -t or fsc -t , respectively.
- In IMAGIC:
Use the command IMPORT-EXPORT or EM2EM
4.) Important NOTES for FSC:
- FSC needs the input volumes in IMAGIC format. In the GUI windows program you can use the
Import
button. When using the terminal program you first have to do the conversion with
em2em -t
- If you cannot display/plot IMAGIC PLT files do not forget to create CSV formatted plot files
so that you can display/plot the FSC curves in your own graphics program.
